Final Music Project part 4

I have finally finished recording and although I am not completely happy with the end result i fell that i did the best I can. I realize that the equipment is not the best and neither is the program but sometimes you just have to do your best with what you are given.

If I were to do this project again I would practice the song more and try to get as much time in the recording room as possible. I would have also fiddled around with the program more to get a better understanding of Audacity.

Final Music Project part 3

So far the hardest part of this project has been the recording. It is a struggle just to get all the equipment out and at the right levels. After that you have to adjust the tempo for the speed you play at. Then After that you have to attempt to record but end up only doing it in sections because you make mistakes.

I now have a huge appreciation for the people who have to go into a studio and sight read a piece that they've never seen before. And to do all that with in an hour or half hour time frame. I think its an amazing skill to be able to do this. Unfortunately I dont really have any of this talent, it takes me a while to get comfortable with a piece and play it well.

Final Music Project part 2

Today was the second day with my final piece. I am now able to play most of it through. I am still having trouble with some of the higher notes and it seems that whenever i play high my first valve gets stuck even with fresh valve oil. The solution to this problem is find alternate fingerings which i have already done and use them instead.

I am starting to take a look at the dynamics now. I am finding that the composer uses very gradual dynamic changes, from piano (quiet) to mezzo piano (soft) to mezzo forte (moderate) to forte (loud), to build up the intensity and then suddenly drops it down to piano again and build its back up again until the very end of the song where he makes it pianissimo (quiet as possible).
This will take a bit of discipline to keep myself from rushing the changes and making sure i stay consistent with my dynamics.

The tempo is marked as Marcia Marcato which means very pointed and accented. Through the first 10 bars all the notes are either staccotoed or accented. In bar eleven it says Sempre Staccato which mean staccato throughout. i will have to keep both of these in mind when I record so that it will sound good with the accompaniment.

Final Music Project

Today I got the song that i will be playing with accompaniment with the aid of Audacity. The song is "In the Hall of the Mountain King" from "Peer Gynt Suite" by Edvard Grieg. Edvard was born on June 15 1843 in Bergen, Norway. He was a composer in the romantic period and is best known for his "Piano Concerto in A minor" and the "Peer Gynt Suite". Much of his work is still used to this day and it will immortally continue on.

Today I struggled through the piece once. The hardest parts for me are when it goes to the higher note. Although hitting these notes isn't a problem the problem is that i am always second guessing myself on whether or not the note is high enough or if i have relaxed my lips too much and dropped a harmonic. I plan to fix this by playing the 4 bar section over and over to become more comfortable with.

Right now i have not started to worry about the tonging, the tempo and the dynamics. But i will keep you posted on how i'm improving and my plans of action.
